I come from the West Midlands, where I went to Queen Mary's Grammer School, Walsall, before studying Theology and Religious Studies at Leeds University. I served as a fireman in Leeds during which time I married Cynthia. Training for ministry at St John's College, Nottingham, I served my title at SS Andrew & Mary, Wakefield. There followed six years as a prison chaplain, serving at HMP Wakefield and HMP Frankland, also Deerbolt Youth Custody Centre. More recently, I was the incumbent of the Swinderby Group of Parishes and remain a Chaplain with the Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force.

We have five grown-up children, Peter, Rowena, Neil, Rachel and Christopher. I am a keen horticulturalist, guitar playing singer/songwriter, play bowls and I'm a research student at Lincoln University.
